So how do you know who is the best SEO company?
The best advice I can give is to follow these steps?
1) Ask for examples and references, get the SEO company to show you real results they have achieved for other clients and ask for a reference so you can talk to someone else who has used the SEO company.
2) Be wary of any SEO company who contacts you out of the blue (either by phone or e-mail), if they are as good as the claim how come they have time to be making marketing calls.
3) Avoid any SEO company who “guarantees” you positions in the search engines, nobody can make promises like “number 1 on Google within 3 months” – avoid any SEO company making these sort of promises at all costs.
4) Look to see if the SEO company follow best practices, a good place to start is comparing the Google guidelines for SEO companies against what work the SEO company are proposing they do on your website.
5) Make sure you fully understand what the SEO company are going to do for your money, be careful of any SEO who say they have a system or computer generated method of optimising your site, successful SEO requires good old fashioned hard work.
6) When you have decided on the best SEO company make sure you have a way of measuring the success of the campaign, ensure they know what keywords you want to appear in the search engines for and have them produce a regular plain english report so you can track progress and changes in the search engine rankings.
7) Watch out for any SEO company who want to tie you into a long contract, if their results are as good as they say why would you want to cancel…
Look at what results the SEO company are achieving for their own website, after all, if they can’t optimise their own website it’s unlikely they can do it for yours and don’t be fooled by the line “we are too busy dealing with our clients websites to work on our own”.

Full of good info! I didnt realise Google communicated about SEO companies I thought they tried to ignore it or just route it out.
SEO has become a service where you need to shop around, most people tend to just go for the 1st one they see but savvy people like to shop around.
Though I did think you were going to put up a league of who you considered were the best SEO companies…
I think first of all the Good SEO company should rank their website high in SERP as you mentioned in order to provide trust to their clients.
I agree with Jason. There isn’t a month, sometimes a week that I get contacted by The Best SEO company that will get me on page one in Google! I wonder for what keyword?! But the funny thing is 95% of them use Gmail account?!? LOL How trustworthy is that?
So my tip would be check the email address! If they use free email provider mark them as spam!
There are a lot of SEO wannabees out there. My recommendation would be, if some offers you their service for less than £200/month turn around and walk away. Good SEO will never undercharge you as they know how valuable their time is.
Al thought it might work for some it’s not worth the risk. Simply because you have no idea what techniques they are using.
Saying that… you still should be careful. Our firs company charged us £600 +VAT and they did **** all for that money. Just because we didn’t ask for results and to show us what they were doing we kept paying them… only after realising we are being riped off! (Can’t mention the name unfortunately) but I can say they are one of the biggest in the UK.
Always ask for results, reports and rankings. If you are not going up stop paying.

Lol at an seo company using a gmail account. I really want to outsource my seo but I never trust anyone on the internet. Its good to go through forums or comments on blogs to see if the company is really any good.

You make some very good points here, though I think it’s sometimes tricky for a good SEO company to prove that it’s good. Search engine rankings area always going up and down, and it takes some time to react and adapt to the changing algorithms. SEO is a long term strategy.
I think the best company to SEO someone is yourself. Only you know whats best for your website and with a little bit of guidance can bring it up to the top.
I think that a good indicator of a good SEO company is their portfolio, if they can show you clients ranking well in a similar topic to your website, you can be sure that they can achieve rankings for you.
Also, good reporting is very important, so that you know exactly what your SEO company is doing for your website.
I agree with Val, there’s plenty of gmail cowboy SEO’s out there who call themselves experts, but don’t even have a website!
Did you guys hear that Google is going to start providing SEO services in a short while? I mean, it’s just a rumor, but if they do it then that will be your SEO company that will guarantee your search rankings.
As you said a good SEO company is the one which is able to optimize their own website and has good reference, but untill you decide for a SEO company you should try and do it yourself, because no one knows your site/product better than you.

SEO Companies can either make you alot of money or take a lot of money. The key is to see if their interests align with yours.
I think it’s really very difficult to find the answer to who is the best SEO company. I guess anyone who can meet my end goals would be the best one and there are many out there who can do that.
I agree with what you say though about being wary of people who just suddenly contact you from out of the blue. I get a lot offers and just press the delete button right away.
Dont be fooled by SEO companies that guarantee first page placement – often they are for very uncompetitive terms that are quite useless. ALways look at their client history and get recommendations

nice and helpful information..a good SEO company can be judged by its peformance. one can go through the the past work of the company, get reference for the clients that they hav served etc. contact those clients and get the feedback.
Its difficult to know which SEO companies are genuine and offer a really valuable service as there are so many out there that claim to offer the same, I would always say to anyone – use someone who has been recommended!
