The Fifa 10 ranking points system has changed considerably from Fifa 09, the points ranking system has changed for the better in my opinion.

A match can now be ended as a draw and both players will (generally) be awarded some rank points, normally somewhere between 10 and 20 points, Fifa 09 had no option to end matches as a draw, instead extra time and penalties had to be played and the loser would be deducted rank points.

Fifa 10 now awards rank point based not only whether you win, loose or draw a match but also on your overall performance during the match.

The crucial thing is that Fifa 10 now calculates rank points based on how well you play, so if you have 25 good chances during a match, a high tackle success percentage and 60% possession but end up loosing 1-0 to a last minute goal, you won’t have as many rank points deducted as you would if you played badly, don’t have any shots on goal and loose 5-0.

The amount of rank points deducted for a loss is also lower than the amount awarded for a win, this means many more “average” players will move up the rankings rather than lose all their points after a run of defeats.

The new option in Fifa 10 to end a match as a draw results in rank points being awarded to both players, a no-score draw will be awarded less then a score-draw. Be warned though, choosing to play on into extra time and/or penalties will result in a points deduction for the loser, but more points for the winner, so often ending the match as a draw is the safest option.

All of this combined makes the Fifa 10 new ranking system much better in my opinion, as I write this post I am ranked at level 13 and steadily moving up.

I don’t currently have the exact formulas used to calculate rank points awarded, however from my experience I have put together the following rough Fifa 10 rank points guide:

Fifa 10 Rank Points Awarded or Lost

For a Win
Excellent performance with 3+ goals) – 70+ Rank Points
Good performance with 2-3 goals – 65+ Rank Points
Average performance with 1-2 goals – 55+ Rank Points

For a draw
Between 10-25 points depending on performance

For a loss
Excellent performance lose by 1 goal – minus 15-25 Rank Points
Good performance lose by 1-2 goals – minus 20-30 Rank Points
Poor performance lose by 3 or more goals – minus 35+ Rank Points
