I spent the last weekend in Brighton and had the pleasure of eating at Momma Cherri’s Soul Shack, which was made famous when it appeared on the Gordon Ramsey show, Kitchen Nightmares.
When Gordon Ramsey visited Momma Cherri’s Soul Shack he said it was some of the best food he had ever tasted and I have to say after eating at the Soul Shack, I totally agree with him.
If you ever find yourself in Brighton make sure you pay Momma Cherri a visit, the food is out of this world.
Every table in Momma Cherri’s was full, but instead of making the place feel busy and cramped it just made for a better atmosphere.
The menu is traditional American and everything is home cooked, the speciality is Soul in a Bowl, comprising of 4 or 5 different dishes (tapas style) for starter and another 4 or 5 for main course.
We tucked into cornbread, catfish with pineapple, jambalaya, macaroni cheese, sweetcorn and black eyed peas, home made onion rings and potato wedges and the bill was around £25 per head (including a good bottle of wine) and this was quite frankly some of the best food I have ever eaten!
Here is a sample of the Soul in the Bowl menu from the Momma Cherri Soul Shack website:
