Here are ten great Link Building Tips that will help with your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) campaign and hopefully get your site closer to the elusive top spot in the Google Rankings.
It is worth bearing in mind that having loads of links to your website or blog is pretty useless if the site itself doesn’t have decent and original content.
1) Do Follow Blog Comments – Leave comments on Do Follow blogs (like this one), this gets you a proper link very quickly indeed, if you can find blogs that relate to the phrases you are trying to promote all the better. If you have a website about cats, then leave try and leave comments on cat related Do Follow blogs.
2) Anchor Text – when you leave a comment on a Do Follow blog the link to your website will be the “name” that you use when making your comment, so make this text (the Anchor Text) relate to your site, if you are trying to promote a website about Xbox 360 Games , make your Anchor Text something like “Xbox 360 Games”.
3) Website Directories – Make sure your site is listed on as many Website Directories as possible, there are directories about pretty much everything these days, again the more the directory relates to your site the better.

4) Page Rank – Try and build links from websites with a high Google Page Rank, the higher the rank, the more “Google Juice” they will give you.
5) Link Baiting - Write a strong outspoken or contraversial post (please ensure you don’t libel anyone), if it is written well others are sure to link to it, even if it’s just to say that your opinion sucks!
6) Article Submission Websites - There are stacks of sites that you can submit your most interesting blog posts to Sphinn and Digg are my favorite, if you have a good blog post this can get you hundreds of good links.
7) Social Networking – Promote our site in the Social Networking arena, use sites like Facebook and Bebo to stir up interest and build links.
Internal Linking – Often overlooked and probably the easiest way of building links to a website, internal links are links from your own posts to another (or even the same) page on your website or blog. As a rule of thumb, every post you write should have one or two internal links.
9) Wikipedia – Write a good, informative post and add to the Wikipedia external links area on the subject you have written about. Although Wikipedia is a No Follow site there is evidence that the links have value.
10) Pay for Links – If you are desperate and can’t be bothered to follow my other Link Building Tips, pay for links, Google Adwords is a good place to start.

The wikipedia post idea was a new one to me. A variation on that is the new About.Us wiki.

These are very good tips. On about the “Do Follow Blog Comments”, this may be a bit difficult to do these days. Since more blog owners are using nofollow tags to prevent spammers. People should give more respect to blog writers and give some constructive comments rather than just spamming comments.
